July 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Simon Miller Arnold and Eva Nicholson Arnold. She graduated from Glenville High School, Glenville State College, and West Virginia University. She is survived by her husband, David William Smith; daughter, Peggy Sue Plum; grandchildren, Shannon, Adam, and Matt; brother, Robert D. Arnold, Glenville. She was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Arnold Deal. She resided in Blacksburg with her husband, David William Smith, and granddaughter, Shannon M. Plum. She retired from Glenville State College in 1984, after a lifetime of teaching in public education. Jean will be remembered for her many kindnesses and her dedication to children. Family visitation will be held at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 1995. A visitation will also be held on November 19, 1995 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ellyson Mortuary in Glenville, W.Va. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, November 20, 1995, at Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society or the Jean Adams-Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund to be established at Glenville State College. He was born February 19, 1935, in Gilmer County, the son of the late Dale W. Groves and Madeline Burke Groves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy Groves. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis C. Rohrbough Groves; two daughters, Kimberly Rush of Weston, and Jeanne Pierce and husband Davy of Buckhannon; two sons, Donald Groves of Camden and Ronald Groves and wife Kristal of Good Hope; six grandchildren, Danny Groves, Dusty Lambert, Derrik Rush, Joseph Legenza, Christopher Groves and Casey Groves; four great-grandchildren, Danner Groves, Jaelyn Roop, Caiden Groves and Madeline Legenza; one step-great-grandchild, Kasey Davis; and one sister, Doris Foster and husband Bud of Glenville. Woodrow worked for Consolidated Natural Gas for over 35 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #118 of Gilmer County, Scottish Rite of Wheeling, Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg and the Lewis County Shrine. He was Methodist by faith. He loved to care for his farm, spending time with his cattle and riding his tractor. Friends were received Monday, February 15, at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Hunt officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Weston. She was united in marriage June 8, 1940 to Eugene “Ace” Collins who preceded her in death on September 7, 1989. Surviving are one son, Jim E. Collins II and wife Janice of Glenville; 1 daughter, Saunnie Hoard of Glenville; 4 grandchildren, Nannette Nutter and husband Michael of East Sparta Ohio, Gina Taylor and husband Brian of Glenville; David Hoard of Glenville; and Jaime Ann Collins also of Glenville; 6 great grandchildren also survive: Joey and Matthew Nutter, Emma Taylor, Airiana Hoard, and Evan and Blake Caudill.
